| Although Madame de Pompadour herself never set foot in America, an acclaimed exhibition dedicated to, this grande dame of the French rococo – the mistress of Louis XV and an influential patroness of the arts – will now bring her to the Portland Art Museum. "La volupté du gout" developed out of the close collaboration between leading French and American art collections. The show has already enjoyed great success in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Tours – with acoustic support from tonwelt audioguides. A completely new tonwelt device will now transport American visitors to the decadent world of Versailles: experts, from costume specialists to curators of European art, provide an exciting perspective on the artistic legacy of Madame de Pompadour. |
